About Australian Points Series

The Australian Points Series (APS) is a competitive shooting series that has been modelled after the American V2 FINALE and conducts a matchup-style tournament. This format ensures a level playing field where each competitor directly competes against another, eliminating common excuses related to relays, pullers, or firing points.

In the Australian Points Series (APS), scoring is based on participants’ performance in various qualifying shoots, including Standard Competitions, State Championships, and APS Events.

After registering for the season, any points a participant earns in these qualifying shoots contribute to their annual points tally.

At the beginning of each season in the Australian Points Series, all competitors start with zero points. As the season progresses, shooters accumulate points based on their performance in various events. The accumulation of these points over the year is critical as it decides who gets invited to the APS FINALE, held at the season’s end.

In each discipline, the top 50% and a maximum of 32 shooters (determined by their total points for the season) will be invited to participate in the APS FINALE. In cases where a qualified shooter cannot attend, the invitation is extended to the next-ranked shooter on the list.

Rankings from each preceding year will serve as the basis for seeding in APS competitions and calculating any additional points in the Base Points Calculator.

Points and Ranking positions do not carry over from one season to the next; every season begins afresh, with each participant starting from zero points. Despite this, a cumulative record of points may be kept to track each participant’s lifetime points tally over the years.

Australian Points Series – FINALE I

The FINALE itself will be conducted over three (3) days.  It’s a double-elimination tournament, which means that everybody has the opportunity to shoot at least two matchups.  A loss in the primary bracket will seed you into the elimination bracket, where you will have the opportunity to continue on and potentially work your way back to shoot for the overall Championship.

An example of such a bracket can be viewed HERE (please note that this is only for illustrative purposes ONLY.  No matches have taken place and F/TR and FOPEN will NOT be competing against one another.)

The FINALE is a pair-fire, best two-of-three format – meaning, you and your opponent for each stage are shooting at the exact same time, in the exact same conditions, on the exact same target.  The only person you are competing against is the person next to you.  You advance if you win two out of three matches in your round matchup.
