AUSTRALIAN POINTS SERIES

Our mission:- to drive more engagement, awareness and participation in our sport – FClass

Season 2025

Points Formula, Award Scale and Ranked Shooter List

The Australian Points Series follow a similar calculation approach to other participating countries; however, it has been adapted to align with local conditions and competition formats.

The following aims to clarify how points are allocated, under what circumstances points can be awarded, and how to ensure your spot in the inaugural Australian Points Series Final.

APS Points will be awarded in three categories: Standard & Approved Competitions, State Championships and APS Events. In all three categories, Points will be calculated similarly to Baseline Points with State Championships attracting a 1.2x multiple and APS Events attracting a 1.5x Multiple.

Although the primary focus of the APS is to ensure greater participation in our sport on all levels, there is a disproportionate number of events available to shooters in some states. Therefore, an upper limit of “Standard Competition” results will be used to count towards the APS aggregate points and will be capped at five events. We believe this will provide a fairer approach to accumulating points while not discouraging participation in those events. However, no cap will be applied to the points gained through State Competitions or APS Events.

Baseline Points Calculator

** Total shooters in a rifle category plus any of the ranked shooters in that rifle category multiplied by 20% and then rounded up. (Field+Ranked)*20% ⎤ = Baseline Points **

This is done for each (FOpen and F/TR) rifle category separately. For example, A match has 25 FTR shooters, 8 of whom are ranked shooters (see list).

The calculation is (25+8)*.2 = 6.4, which rounds up to 7 FTR shooters receiving points for this match.

We then go to the Points Award Scale to determine the points for each position.

In the example, 7 FTR shooters will receive points, 1st place @ 8 points, 2nd @ 6 points, 3rd @ 5 points and so on.

Standard Competitions

Standard Competitions will be all competitions sanctioned and approved by NRAA S&T’s as Open Prize Meetings for an affiliated club or district within the 2024 APS Season. The Management Committee may occasionally approve additional or unsanctioned competitors to ensure fair and inclusive opportunities for all APS participants. All State Championship Lead-up events, including any Kings with less than 10 FOpen or 7 F/TR competitors, will be considered Standard Competitions for the purposes of awarding points.

All Standard Competitions will have points awarded using the Base Points Calculator method.

State Championship Calculator:

State Championships (Kings) must have at least ten(10) competitors in FOpen or seven(7) in F/TR to qualify for their respective categories. Any State Championship with less than the required number of competitors will be downgraded as a Standard Competition, and points will be allocated in that category.

Baseline Points * Multiplier(1.2x) = State Championship Points Allocation

i.e.
From the previous Baseline points, the winner was provided 8 points. In a State Championship this would be 8 * 1.2 = 9.6 (Rounded Up) to 10 points

1st   : 10 points
2nd : 8 points
3rd : 6 points and so on.

APS Event Calculator

APS Events are those events managed, operated or sanctioned to be run under APS rules and guidelines for the purposes of Match-up, Knock-out Pairs shooting.

Baseline Points * Multiplier(1.5x) = APS Event Points Allocation

i.e.
From the previous Baseline points the winner was provided 8 points. In a APS Event this would be 8 * 1.5 = 12 points

1st   : 12 points
2nd : 9 points
3rd : 8 points (7.5pts rounded up) and so on.

Tiebreakers:

V’s matters and is an indicator of performance. If there is a tie, the number of Vs scored by competitors will be used to determine the outcome.

Let’s assume the winner had 55 V’s out of 125 record shots. The calculation is 55/125=.44, the winner of this match would receive 36.44 points and so on for each shooter that received points in a match.

2024 Ranked Shooters:

For the first Season of the Australian Points Series, Ranked Shooters are based on the OzFclass ranking as of the end of the 2023 shooting season (ACT Kings and State Championships). The Ranked Shooters list will remain static for the entire 2024 season and will be updated on 1 December 2024 and each year thereafter for the upcoming seasons.

Only the Top 32 shooters within the APS will be listed as Ranked Shooters each year. Rankings will be used to determine initial shooter match-ups for APS Events, and it is in your best interest to gain as many points as possible.

Ranked shooters retain their rank when switching to a different Category. For example, if a shooter ranked in FTR participates in an F-Open match, they are still considered ranked for the category they participated in.
